Terrorist Found In Portland.

On Friday evening, the FBI and Portland police department arrested a young 19 year-old American born citizen, Mohamed Osman Mohamud. They charged him in attempting to use a weapon of mass destruction to blow-up a van during the Christmas tree lighting ceremony in Pioneer Courthouse Square. The FBI says that they have been following him since early summer, which then helped them create an undercover plan to unfold his intentions. The plan was to help Mohamud believe that he was working with another terrorist but in reality he was only working with an undercover FBI operative. Mohamud was led to believe that the “his” plans were set to be carried out during the Christmas tree lighting , but little did he know that the bomb was actually a dummy that was set up by the FBI, so that no one will be in danger.
Situations like these help me feel more secure, but also more scared about the terrorism going on in the world today. This proves that terrorist are not only the ones who claim to represent Islam but also people here in our own country. On the other hand this shows how good of an FBI agency we have in our country, because they were able to help us prevent another terrible terrorist attack that helped spare the lives of many people. More and more of these attacks are going on in our world today, that keeps people more afraid of traveling and even going out to events in their own hometown.

Bomb Hits Police IN Karachi. Kills 20People.

This explosion could be heard through out several miles in a city with about 14 million people, in Karachi, which is Pakistans biggest city. People that have seen this event happen say that the crater left 12 meters wide in front of the gutted building. there were several casualties that happened among this attack. "We have reports that there may be some women police among the casualties because there was a women's police station inside the building." CID officials and their offices, including the buildin have been targeted in the past in Karachi. There have been several suspects for the people responsible for this attack. Mohammad Aslam Khan, of the CID, he told BBC that the men arrested were planning to carry on Shia processions in the city. Buildings that were close by were badly damaged, while windows with in two miles in radius were shattered.
Attacks like theses still continue to go on in our world today. This keeps people more terrified of terrorism groups, since they are the ones that cause the worst damage towards our countries and communities. This to me is a very scary issue since more of these attacks continue to happen every day, and also because these attacks seem to become more dangerous and powerful. Al-Qaeda is starting to have an affect on people and starting to scare people in other countries with the terrorist attacks they are starting to create more often.

Al Qaeda Is Starting to use More Mumbai-Style Attacks.

The discovery of the Al-Qaedas plans to attack several cities such as Britain, Germany, and France led the United States to create an unexpected travel advisory for its citizens traveling in Europe in the month of October.  Al-Qaeda is still planning Mumbai-style attacks in Europe, with the possibility that the United States is also a target. European officials tell CNN that they believe the attacks was expected to be carried out before the end of this year. CNN made an exclusive interview with Dr. August Hanning, who was a former head of Germany’s foreign intelligence service, said that they indicated that Al-Qaeda had already started to plan Mumbai-style attacks against the United States. “The revelation is the most concrete indication yet that Al-Qaeda is planning mass casualty gun attacks on U.S. soil.”
These planning of attacks against foreign countries and the United States have become a serious deal. There has been more and more evidence that Al-Qaeda wants to plan a massive attack against a major country such as Germany, France, and the United States. With this becoming more public, the citizens of these countries have became more aware and more scared of the attackers (Al-Qaeda).  This proves that the goal of Al-Qaeda seems to be working, since as terrorist they are meant to implement fear in people. By implementing fear in people it will be easier for them to reach their goal of spreading out their beliefs.

Bomb 17 Minutes Before Going Off.

Scotland Yard officers found a hidden device in a printer cartridge at East Midlands Airport around 2 pm last Friday after another one was found just like it in Dubai. One of the devices in the package was diffused in only 17 minutes before it was set to go off. Although it was unclear whether Brice Hortefeux, the French interior minister, was talking about the bomb in Dubai or in Leicester. There was a US official that said they did not have time to plan their attack. At first British police could not find the bombs and gave the all-clear sign in the airport. The device is being currently investigated at the Defense Science and Technology Laboratories at Fort Halstead in Kent. Sources say that the device was set to go off using a dismantled mobile phone alarm clocker as a timer. “It is thought that the detonator was made of lead azide in a syringe which was set to react with PETN high explosive inside the toner cartridge of two desktop printers. They believe the person who made the bomb was al-Asiri of the terrorist group Al-Qaeda. Their target was set to be passenger jets in which cargo is transported.
This type of behavior is what keeps people afraid of terrorist. They continue to plan their attacks to have the people more vulnerable once they “try” to take over another country and continue to spread their beliefs. If this continues to happen more people will be afraid of the terrorist groups and since people become more vulnerable it will be easier for them to create their attacks.

Osama Threatens France...

Recently France has received threats from Osama Bin Laden because France released its nationals kidnapped a month ago. “The French authorities are completely mobilizing the release of seven hostages.” The French authorities say that they will continue to fight against terrorism. Osama threatened to kill French natives in revenge of the French governments support for the war led by the United States  in Afghanistan and its new law banning Muslim veils that cover the full face.  Depending on the issue of freedom of expression of religion that should be mutually appreciated and respected per every nation; Osama is attempting to defend this honor in a rather radical method.  While I see that Osama is trying to protect something that should be protected, his manner of action is something that should never be taken by anybody.
The French government on the other side, have a right to express their own rules and regulations depending on the way that they want to execute their regulations.  If they wish to employ a controversial rule, it is their right as a republic to do this.  The issue of religion is highly involved in the wearing of a veil, so there is no doubt that this issue is highly controversial.  Regardless, the protection of their nation is the number one priority once any threats have been made that could possibly threaten their security.  Therefore, their ties with NATO is proper, and even with the impression of defence of religion that Osama tries to imply, there should never be an excuse to conduct terrorist at the expense of possibly innocent bystanders and citizens.

International Terrorism.

It has now been more than nine years that the United States and allies attacked Taliban regime in Afghanistan, and destroyed Al-Qaeda's only safe haven. The threat that Salafi jihandis created still continues to affect the people in Europe and American cities. “Al-Qaida and its affliliates were able to survive the loss of Afghanistan largely because they set up a base on the internet instead. The global jihadi movement only wants to reach one main goal, and that is to reestablish an Islamic caliphate and continue to spread it throughout the world. Since currently they haven’t been able to reach their goal now, they have declared the whole world to be what they say “dar al-harb,” which means land of war. They now have established a caliphate online instead, where they are able to plan their attacks and form new recruits. The Al-Qaida thanks the virtual world of caliphate because they have been able to continue to recruit new soldiers and train them for war and keep the global jihandi movement alive in cyberspace.
I think that this is amazing to find out that Al-Qaeda is using the internet to recruit their soldiers for war. This shows how the advancement of the internet has changed the world slowly. Now for the terrorist it is easier for them to recruit and plot their attacks towards another country. This is the beginning of a new phase of war, this will make it easier for any terrorist to accomplish what they want. Now maybe they will be able to accomplish their goal which is to reestablish an Islamic caliphate.

Blast Warning.

Henry Okah, Nigerian militant, made an appearance in Johannesburg court on Friday due to some terrorism charges. The following day was followed by another bomb warning from Jomo Gbomo. The last time on October 1st,(this is Nigerian’s independence), that Jomo issued an internet bomb threat twelve people died. “Nigerian authorities failed to evacuated an area in the Nigerian capital, Abuja, where Mend warned car bombs had been primed to go off. Later on Mend took responsibility for the bombing, but it blamed the Nigerian government for failing to respond to warnings given five days in advance. Gbomo sent a group email at 5:15 pm, did not say where or when the bomb will be placed at but it displayed that “as usual we will give 30 minutes advance warning to avoid civilian casualties, then sit back and watch how the blame game will be played out on all those already falsely accused.”
News articles like these are was gives terrorism towards the people of Africa. This is a perfect example how people still continue to plan attacks towards their own country.  This makes it more difficult for the people in Africa to believe and trust in their higher authorities. The authorities did not take the threat seriously and responded after twelve causalities occurred, which made it harder for the residents in Africa to believe that they are able to take care of them, the citizens.

France Concerned About "Homegrown Terrorism"

French police arrested twelve people on Tuesday in two separate raids in Southern France. Nine arrest were made in on raid in Marseilles and Avignon, police found and seized guns and ammunition in the first raid. In the second operation in Marseilles two men were arrested and one in Bordeaux, this is because contact information was found in the cell phone by a French-Algerian man arrested this past weekend for having a bombing kit. Western governments are now concerned that Al Qaeda is trying to sympathizers who are citizens in Western Europe help Al Qaeda assist them in terrorist attacks in Europe. The nine people that were arrested in Marseilles and Avignon were suspected of trafficking fired arms and explosives. The other three men that were arrested in Bordeaux and Marseilles were suspected of providing housing and false identity papers to people, trying to move into France. All those that were arrested were not linked together but they have ties to radical Islamic groups.
More and more often police are continuing to find more fired arms and plans for terrorist to attack a country. This can have a affect to both side of the story for the terrorist it will be much harder to continue with their attacks if police continues to find them. For government officials this is a great thing to keep their country from harm but this can also make it much harder for them to find the terrorist. With this continuing there is no doubt that terrorism has not stopped and continues to happen.

Terrorist Attack In Nigeria.

British authorities were warned about a terrorist attack that would occur in the 50th anniversary of Nigeria’s Independence. This event was later hit by three car bombs. These explosions that occurred after the main militant group in the oil-rich southern delta sent an e-mail out threatening what would happen in the festival and told authorities to evacuate people. “Nigerian newspaper This Day, citing sources, said the government had failed to avert the attack despite receiving a warning from British Intelligence.” The third explosion, which was a smaller explosion was nearby Eagle Square, where President Goodluck Jonathan sat with several Nigerian and foreign dignitaries. These attacks killed twelve people and injured seventeen people.
These attacks keep the natives of Nigeria worried.  Especially now, that their oil production has climbed from about 1.6 barrels a day to 2m now. Like the article states, the return of violence could have some effects on Nigeria’s economic growth. If the attacks continue to happen many people would be too scared and do their regular routines. Less people would go out and enjoy themselves, some may even stop going to work, which means less production of oil for their economy to grow.

France Can Be Al Qaeda's New Target

On Wednesday, the French Foreign Ministry confirmed the claim by Al Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb that the group had kidnapped 7 foreign workers from Niger last week, which included five French Nationals. Lately there have been several threats towards France, like the one towards the Eiffel Tower. The Eiffel Tower was evacuated last week after authorities received a bomb threat. Not only was this important monument threaten but  also was different means in public transportation in France had similar threats. "We have serious indications coming from a reliable intelligence telling us that there's significant risk of an attack," says Frederic Pechenard, director of France's National Police, told Europe 1 radio.

I think that these attacks coming from Al Qaeda can have a great affect towards France. People will start to become more afraid of coming out due to the threats towards their country. The French will be scared because they know what this group can do, since the whole world realized what they did towards the United Stated in 9/11. Although, nothing yet has happened towards the country of France. For the members of Al Qaeda it is a good thing that the people of large and important countries are afraid of them. This way, their attacks are easier for them to create, although it may be higher due to an increase towards national security.

U.K. Police Arrest 5 People for Pope Threat.

On Friday, police arrest 5 men in London get arrest from suspicion of terrorism during the Pope’s first visit to the capital. The police got a tip from someone in the early hours of the morning “on suspicion of the commission, preparation or instigation of act of terrorism.” One person familiar with this act of threat towards Pope Benedict XVI said that the threat was seen as low key and police have arrested them as a precaution.  A spokeswomen has said they were employed by Veolia Environmental Services, who are contracted to clean Westminister Streets, where the Pope was to appear at. The men arrested were from 25 to 50 years old and brought into questioning  by London police. The police searched all over London looking for hazardous or suspicious items, but nothing was found. The pope was let known of these acts and decided to continued with his schedule of appearances.

I think that this is a very dangerous threat because many people look up Pope Benedict XVI, he is a leader in religion but also a leader in many other ways. He promotes human rights, world peace, and equality throughout the world, just to name a few. Many people would be greatly devastated if this were to have happened. Losing the Pope through an act of terrorism would hurt many Catholics throughout the world.

Cops hunt for 2 terrorists Mumbai

The police in Mumbai are on the look out for two man that have sneaked into India to prepare terror attacks during festive season. The police have realiased the names and pictures of the suspects Kalimmudin Khan and Rameshwar Pandit but they deny being for Pakistan. The commissioner of police said "as of now, we only have information that they are foreign nationals". For the first time the Mumbai police and IB ( Intelligence Bureau) have released information regarding information about possible attacks. I agree with the actions that the Mumbai police and IB took. They are also deploying high security for the Eid and the Ganesh Festival. I could feel better if  I was Mumbai resident especially during a big festival, I would not have to worry about any attacks to ruin my time at the festival. All the people want is safety and have a good time.

The Union home ministry have released alerts to neighboring states that they could also be in trouble, that there is a risk of terrorist sneaking in with out them noticing. To be in high alert and secure all important roads. The Actions taken by the law enforcement agencies are appropriate and are going in the right way to a secure environment. The terrorist problem has become a big over the years and it is nice to see that there are things getting done.

Terrorism Increasing In Mexico...

Over a short period of time the terrorism in Mexico has dramatically increased, due to the violent acts of drug wars and military groups trying to control them.  Many innocent people have been hurt and killed by stray bullets, some in which it has reached the United States, but luckily if did not affect anyone.  Although most of the attacks are meant to be fired at specific targets, sometimes the troops and gangsters are willing to confront each other.  They will take the opportunity to confront their targets wherever they find them including public places such as busy streets, neighborhoods, or shopping centers.  Mexico always realized they had a problem in their hands with the drug wars against the government.  They realized that it was a much bigger problem when a recent annihilation of seventy-two transmigrantes (migrants traveling through Mexico between Central and South America to reach the United States), they saw that the violence had entered to a new stage at war and terrorism. There has also been killings and attacks toward political leaders in Mexico.  These attacks towards the government and general public are a sign that the drug gangs are turning into more extreme tactics. “Targeting innocent people instills fear among the public; attacks on politicians are meant to destabilize the government. Together they aim to undermine public confidence in government.”  One thing is certain that the increase of terrorism has gone up dramatically in the country of Mexico due to all the drug wars and violence to keep transporting their drug supply.

Unprecedented Terrorism Taking Root In Mexico
