Recently there has been a recall of Chinese made Mattel toys. The paint used in the production process was tainted with high levels of lead. The recall has had effects on both sides of the globe, including the apparent suicide of the manager of the company that was responsible, and the monetary loss of the Mattel corporation expected to exceed $30 million. Fortunately of the 1 million tainted toys only 30 percent was reported to have reached the shelves.
This recall has created a whirlwind of questions about the safety standards of China and a string of recalls of several Chinese manufactured goods. This scare has the US offering up promises of future testing on foreign made products to pacify the growing fear of tainted goods.
