Ambassador Ryan Crocker and Gen. David Petraeus were flooded with questions during a Senate Foreign Relations Committee hearing on Tuesday. The questions all pertained to the pullout of American soldier in Iraq and about the situation in Iraq. General Petraeus commented that Iraqi security forces are getting stronger and he told them that the violence has decreased. Senator John Warner question Petraeus about whether or not the strategy he was putting before Congress was going to make America safer. Petraeus replied, "Sir, I believe that this is indeed the best course of action to achieve our objectives in Iraq.” Warner replied, “Does that make America safer.” Petraeus said he did not know and that he had not really thought about it. Sen. John McCain said that if we surrender in Iraq and go home that we will be back. He then asked Petraeus to confirm that Iraq was indeed the central front on the war on terror. Petraeus replied with that is correct. More senators commented about the situation including Barbara Boxer and Joseph Biden.
The war America is facing in Iraq is a very controversial situation that each one of us have to face everyday. Whether or not we should pullout of Iraq has also became an issue that has caused many arguments especially in Congress. There have been many compelling arguments on both sides on this particular issue. The war on terror is a global problem that needs our attention as well as the attention of the other countries of the nation and the world.
