A long time issue in history has been the equal treatment of women in comparison to men. There have been several advances; however there are still woman who feel like it is not equal. Two areas where there are currently problems with gender equality are in the political and economic fields globally, which is what leads many to wonder if there have really been that big of changes in history. A key belief, of many women, is that they have been suppressed from positions in these fields by the men. “The global fight against oppression of women first came to the fore in the 19th century Europe at the emergence of English Women’s Movement” One key area which this oppression has been very clear and prevalent is in Nigeria, this has been an issue there since the 1920’s and still carries on today. An example of a specific field that women have been suppressed from is the military, which some even got to play a very small role in since there was such a shortage.
Personally, I feel as though this is defiantly true; however, there have defiantly been big changes made and big steps taken toward progression. An example of this would be a woman, Hillary Clinton, running for president which before would have never happened. I hope that with in the next few years things are completely equal in all ways. Although, theoretically, according to the law they are equal now however there are still issues like in Nigeria that prove that there is not equality everywhere.
