Marcela Hernandez/February 12 2008/5:50 pm/ Poverty and Inequality
My topic is poverty and inequality which I found a very interesting article on poverty in Botswana. This article talks about a way that some people are trying to find a way to reduce poverty in Botswana. Bajaki Gospel Group is members who hope to make a difference, by helping disadvantaged members of society; the group praises the Lord and at the same time shows concern for the needy. It was formed in 2005 with focusing on doing everything they can (which their main goal is to use music as a tool to help fight poverty) even though many of the members are unemployed which is one of the main reasons it was formed. They not only talk about their concerns on poverty but social ills afflicting the nation, including diseases like HIV/AIDS, passion killings, rape and murder. They also talk about a good citizen such as Robert Masitara who is a businessman focusing on helping mainly women with children with disabilities, because they lack money. Even though “the group's dreams of helping the needy might not be realized because its members themselves are struggling to raise funds for the release of their album.” I think this is a very good thing they are doing because even though it’s not much but people are actually out there focusing on trying to fight poverty in many countries.

I think this is an interesting way to help poverty, I'm not sure I see how much of an impact this is going to happen on the real issues of poverty and HIV/AIDS in this country. I wish luck to these people and hope they accomplish something great though.
