Getting Pakistan Back on It's "Feet"

Carla Neal/Apr 12 4:15 pm/Democracy

Following the recent Pakistan elections, this article fills us in on some of the most recent troubles that the government is now facing, the main being how to reinstate the supreme judges that were illegally let go and put under arrest by Pres. Musharraf for political reasons. The PPP party, that includes the new PM, believes that the judges be reinstated with additional laws that help protect the judges while another head party, the Pakistan Muslim League, believes that the reinstatement should be as quick as possible; therefore, there would be no additional laws added. They are wanting this done quickly because some think that once it is finalized the Chief Justice will be able to bring charges against the Pres. and get him out of office. The article also goes on to say that the government is also trying to get many of the restrictions removed on the media that were placed there by the Pres. in his coup; however, this will probably more difficult to settle than the reinstatement of the judges.

This is a good thing to hear because these major decisions involving the government are now being made by democratic methods rather than the totalitarian methods that have been used previously and freedoms are being returned where earlier, they were taken away; my only hope now is that they will be able to resolve these matters peacefully and that there will not be any violence involved because that country has seen its share in the past year.
