Darfur refugee camp fears army buildup

Kendall Tetsworth/wars and violence/4:45/september 5, 2008
displaced people at a refugee camp are worried about an impending attackt due to increased military forces about 3 miles form the camp. Peacekeeper patrols are absent, and the people are scared. The sudanese military was not available for comment in the situation. The darfur rebels have demanded that the sudanese military personal leave the area or they will intervene. The refugees and the UNAMID peacekeepers are scared that the fight will affect the camp. The UN reported over 300,000 casualties since 2003. Sudan reported only 10,000.

The fact that Sudan has reported such a low number of casualties compared to the UN calculation isnt helping the situation at all. Sudan is trying to hide the fact that this war has gotten as bad as it has.  The refugees caught in the middle of this war did nothing wrong, and shouldnt be fearing for their lives on a daily basis. This war will not end soon. especially without interference from the world's more influential governments.
