Alas the trials begin for men who have been suspected of organizing acts of terrorism within the Moroccan territory. The arrest of the suspected leaders of the radical Islamist cell took place in February when authorities took into custody thirty people, which included six politicians. One man in particular, Abdelkader Belliraj, has been accused of also killing members of the Jewish community in the 1980s. The trials have just begun with the plea of Belliraj’s lawyer for the conditions of his client’s cell to be improved, since Belliraj has been in solitary confinement since February. He also claims that Belliraj has nothing to do with the accusations that the government has formed against him, for his client was working for the Belgian Intelligence service during the time. Belliraj states in his defense that “He has visited the world and terrorist organizations, in concert with the Belgian authorities, including the military security.” If the statement is true, hopefully Belgian will come to his rescue before the trial ends this year, but what about the other men that have been accused for the same plots of terrorism? In particular the six politicians that have the strong support of their families outside the court house, whom has protested against their arrest with poster signs stating, “We’re all against politician’s arrest!” I don’t think it is impossible for politicians to be corrupt in the sense of abusing their power for their own personal pleasure. I’m also not sure how this trial will play out in Morocco but I do hope that justice will be served for the men who actually plotted to kill the innocent. It is important that many trials form in the nature of the Moroccan terrorism trials, to extend a tough warning against such radical extremist. Source: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/africa/7674820.stm
