The clash between the Christians and Muslims that we see today is nothing more than an ancient struggle resurfacing. The Muslims had generally been stronger in the battle than the Christians but around the 17th century, the Christian powers became stronger. During the 20th century, the Ottoman Empire (the world’s greatest Muslim power), couldn’t resist the attacks the Christians of Europe were making. In the first world wart the Ottoman Empire was broken up.
The battle continued for the next fifty years and the priority of religion began to decline. The Christianized west become more focused on worldly or secular things and the Muslim began to adopt western ideas such as nationalism and capitalism. By adopting western ideas, they gained the west’s approval.
Israel was created in 1948. Although the Jews didn’t completely agree with and get along with the Muslims or the Christians, the Jews felt more secure and less threatened in Muslim countries rather than Christian ones because the Muslim countries would tolerate them. On the other hand Jews would be in danger of massacre in if they were in a Christian country. The tension between Israel and the Muslim states was more of a political issue rather than a religious one. The Muslims states argued that the Jews were setting up a western nation while at they were trying to get rid of it. Because of this the Muslim nations compared Israel to the Christian crusaders.
This conflict has been occurring for centuries and still continues to this day. Will we ever see the end of this or will it always be going on? This is a complicated conflict that can’t be resolved overnight.
