Zimbabwe's Health Issues Worsen

In Zimbabwe a deadly cholera outbreak has started to worsen the health problems. Despite the fact that the monetary crisis they have been dealing with for almost a year is nearly ending, these people are experiencing a more serious issue. According to the World Health Organization, this cholera outbreak is one of the biggest disease outbreaks that had ever taken place in the world.

Cholera causes severe diarrhea, vomiting and dehydration. If the disease is not treated quickly it may easily lead to death. So far 3,623 people have died and 76,127 people have been infected with cholera since August. The association stated that Zimbabwe would see some very difficult problems accompanied by a worsening of the medical emergency situation that could become out of control unless urgent action is taken.

This last year has meant very much for the Zimbabwean government because they have issued with the elections, the opposition charges of fraud and the unity of the government, thus leaving the cholera problem aggravating. Being a time when a lot of money was needed for politics, the sanitation system has failed in offering proper conditions.

The government actually stated that the sanitation system failed because they were spending all their money on politics. That absolutely blows my mind. They would rather spend money on politics then save the men and women in their country. It also amazes me how different countries are. I mean how did the US become so different then Africa & Europe. Why did we end up successful, Why are we not like Africa spending money on politics rather than sanitation.

Don't get me wrong, America isn't the best and we do spend on some very unnecessarily things but we are nothing like the other countries in the world. What truly amazes me is that they have no concern for the people that are dying from this. They are not trying to prevent it and are not drawing an drastic measures to make a change. The more I read about these other countries the more I truly am thankful that I am in a country that is concerned for my help and there is always someone to help me when I do get sick.

Regulations and standards really need to be put into action in situations such as this. It is, of course, very difficult to change the course of a nation, and the public policies within that country, but at least quick aid should be given from any country in order to help these people.
