For many the fact that American is dependent on others for its energy supply is a very big thing to worry about in terms of America surviving as a autonomous and self empowered nation. Because of the 9/11 attacks those worries came to the forefront of much of the American public minds and for some that is pushing them to innovate and push American energy into the future. Emmanuel Sachs, a man involved in the photovoltaic industry since the 1980’s and the chief technical officer at 1366 Technologies, hopes he can revolutionize American energy by making solar cells more efficient and less costly than oil and other fossil fuels. He hopes to do this by creating solar cells from the very abundant silicon resources of the U.S. Also he and his company’s engineers are making technology with these silicon cells that will allow them to trap more energy and waste less of it while streamlining the wiring to make them more cost effective. By breaking the 1 dollar per watt cost barrier for solar cells he is confident that solar energy can become a major part of American society but only if he has the support of politicians and the American people.
The news of an affordable and none polluting energy would be of great importance to the world and not just America. Countries whose technological development is being hinder by a lack of good infrastructure and energy reserves would be able to catch up with the rest of the global community. Areas struck by natural disaster and in need of assistance could have power and medical equipment in shorter periods of time without the need to bring in heavy and fuel dependent generators. Power outages due to bad weather would be a thing of the past when all you have to do is switch over to your own solar charge battery. Being able to plug into the sun is in no way a terrible thing. Hopefully more of this solar tech is in the works because it would seem to be the answer the prayers of anyone afraid of the looming energy crisis.
