It is estimated that by the year 2050 there will be approximately nine billion people in this planet and that it will be impossible to sustain such an immense demand for food unless we change our methods of agriculture. This article from BBC talks about how we need to start using our technology to find more effective ways to grow our food because we are going to be responsible to feed more mouths and right now we are struggling to do so.” One way to enhance global food production is the use of Marked Assisted Selection (MAS), which allows the improvement of crops through “smart breeding”. This consists the crossbreeding of plants, rather the genetic alteration through the injection of foreign genes. This can help create more resistant species of plants that could be grown in different parts of the world where they usually would not grown, “this application of genetic modification methods would be an additional alternative in the development of energy-rich and environmentally safe biomass for industrial use”
This is very important because right now we are struggling to feed everybody, it would only get worst naturally when our population grows by fifty percent. Its necessary that we start looking at these numbers and start realizing that more attention should be given to the issue before its too late. In my opinion governments should stop spending so much money on wars and pointless investments and invest in its people which is what they are supposed to do in the first place. We have abused our planets, now that we are in trouble we need to find effective ways to heal the lands that we have worn out, so we can use them again and to find more effective ways to grow food with out using up all the resources in this planet.
