Min Zhang, from the University of Western Australia, studied the diets of 2,018 women from the southeastern Chinese city of Hangzhou -- half of whom had breast cancer. Chinese women who ate mushrooms and drank green tea significantly cut their risk of breast cancer and the severity of the cancer in those who did develop cancer. While breast cancer was the most common type of cancer for women worldwide, China was four to five times lower than that typically found in developed countries. Min found, with the women who consumed the freshest mushrooms were around two-thirds less likely to develop breast cancer compared with those who did not eat mushrooms. "The risk of breast cancer significantly declined with the highest intake of dietary mushrooms," Min stated. The combination of green tea and mushrooms was more effective than just mushrooms alone. This could partially explain the lower incidence of breast cancer amongst Chinese women.
Hopefully I never get breast cancer because I hate green tea as well as mushrooms! However, this is a great discovery that was found by this research because these are simple, everyday items that can be found in any local store. Women who are struggling with breast cancer or just want to prevent it altogether should possibly try this remedy. I did wonder though if maybe the low risk of breast cancer had something to do with the women of China’s diet?! I know we do not have the same ways of preparing foods, so maybe that same research should be done here just to see how accurate this study really is.
