The UN-Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon recently announced his outrage on the violent crimes on women around the world. He claimed that women are major forces in society, giving birth to children, caring for homes, working in fields, weaving the cloths that we wear and therefore he stated that "violence on women is an attack on everyone."
1 in 5 women around the world are victims of rape and in some places, 1 in 3 is beaten or abused. What is even more shocking is that after women are raped, they are sometimes shamed by their family. It is appalling to me that women can be blamed for these atrocities and not only do I believe these crimes should end, I believe that more understanding and support needs to be given to women world wide.
I think that in our generation, we have seen the start of many changes towards people's attitudes of women, and more and more women are forces in society. It is very sad to see though that around the world women are not being given the same opportunities and are being abused, raped, and in extreme cases, killed.

I agree with you that women should not be supject to rape and violence. Women do a lot when it comes to family and society issues and I think that people should respect that more and give women a voice because everyone deserves a voice. I understand that some countries believe that the Universal Human Rights toward women violate their religious beliefs however rape and violence toward women does not violate any religious belief. We must all work toward annihilate rape and violence. Once we have acommplished that women will have more of a voice to fight for their other basic human rights.
I agree with you when you stated that women should not have to deal with even the worry of rape and violence. I feel that women need to be appriciated for all the hard and long work that they do. People should work together to improve the rights and conditions of women around the world. Equal rights between men and women should no longer be a problem in this date and time and it is astonishing that certain cultures disagree.
