Arrests made at a Tamil Tiger's demonstration at Westminister

Tamil flags were taken and arrests were made at Westminister as a protest over the abused human rights of the people of Sri Lankan swelled to over a thousand people and had desturbed the busy London streets for almost a full 24 hours. At on point over 3 thousand people made up the protest, which chanted things such as 'Shame on British police' and " Stop Sri Lankan's genocide of Tamils.' while police tried to restore order. Only five people were arrested, and two people jumped of the Westmimster Bridge into the Thames and several more sat down where they were when the police tried to remove them. Meetings between police and community leaders were held to attempt to release the public tension without making a huge amounts of arrests.
President Mahinda Rajapakse of Sri Lanka has been quote as saying that the Sri Lankan's military is close to wiping out the Tamil fights and refuses to consider a cease-fire, which he claims will only give the rebels a chance to regroup.
“The need for a humanitarian ceasefire is now even more urgent,” Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs states. " Nothing excuses the reported use of civilians by the LTTE as a human shield . . . But nor does the LTTE’s behaviour excuse any failings by the Sri Lankan government to meet the high standards expected of democratic governments in conflict.”

I get that Mahinda wants to end the fighting that's been going on for over two decades, but is wiping out a quauter of the population the answer? He wants to end it once and for all, then the goverment in Sri Lanka needs to consider an alternative to the issue, not a unflexible slap to the people. How can there be change if no one will change?
