NATO leaders pledge police for Afghanistan
European leaders have agreed to back up President Obama’s new strategy for Afghanistan however; they are only offering military trainers and extra security for the upcoming elections. President Obama’s plan is to send extra troops to Afghanistan to help stabilize their government as they prepare for the upcoming elections to be held in August. European leaders agree to send these trainers as non-combative troops. President Obama expresses his gratitude to the European leaders to help accomplish a common goal which is to leave Afghanistan with a stable democratic government. Although European leaders have agreed to sending more troops, there are many Europeans who feel that the casualties that may occur and the cost of supporting these troops is an “unnecessary distraction during economic crisis.” President Obama briefed NATO on his new strategy to help stabilize Afghanistan while getting rid of terrorist groups such as the Taliban and Al-Qaeda. NATO has agreed to send up to 5,000 trainers and police in its efforts to support President Obama’s new plan. German Chancellor Angela Merle was quoted saying “the alliance must ensure no more terrorist danger emanates from Afghanistan,” this seems to be the main goal of President Obama’s new plan for Afghanistan.
