Recently a former U.S. Army contractor has been convicted of stealing around $40 million worth of fuel from a military base in Iraq. Lee Dubois pleaded guilty to the theft of government property and faces up to around 10 years in prison. His trial has been postponed while he is cooperating with federal officials to find the other suspects involved. Investigators were told he profited as much as 800,000 from 2007-2008. Dubois admitted to using fraudulent paperwork so that fuel trucks could withdrawal tens of thousands of gallons a day. He has promised to provide 450,000 in restitution. If Dubois fails to make good on his restitution the district judge has warned he will likely deal with Dubois harshly at his sentencing.

The article goes on to claim that from 2003 to 2007 around 20 percent or $85 billion of the entire budget for the Iraq war during that time. Congress is concerned that fraud has been running rampant with these wartime contractors. This is a real concern that needs to be taking seriously. This is proves that people will do anything for money these days. It’s sad these people are even willing to steal from their own country during a time of war. They are suppose to be the ones to represent and fight for our country.
