Researcher Suzanne J. Grant of the Center for Complementary Medicine Research at the University of Western Sydney, in Australia has conducted a study which tested the effect of Chinese herbs on people suffering from diabetes. All the patients showed pre-diabetes symptoms which lead to type II diabetes. She and her research team found that these herbs like Jiangtang Bushen, Xiaoke Huaya and Tang Kang Yin actually reduce high blood sugar levels associated with diabetes and two-thirds of the patients in the study also did not get any worse in their disease. Grant is pleased with her findings but also believes there needs to be more trials with it to get rid of any bias that could have occurred during the study. They are stressing the fact that these herbs are not the “cure all” for diabetes and you have to make lifestyle changes as well like eating better and working out. They haven’t found any side effects associated with these herbs yet.
I think its interesting how some home remedies actually do work like people say they do. Incorporating these herbs into your daily meals, that should be healthy, and being physically active can boost anyone’s immune systems. Most people with diabetes are overweight and have bad eating habits. Any doctor would tell them to work out and eat better. Changing your lifestyle is always one of the hardest parts of getting healthy. I think these herbs could actually help keep down the costs of this disease as well. If they are used as a medicine to lower the person’s blood sugar levels it might reduce the amount of prescription drugs they would normally have to take. You could grow some of these herbs like the Chinese have done for years in your backyards which isn’t expensive at all.
