Fears over cancer vaccine as schoolgirl dies

England has prompted a widespread freeze on the country's national vaccination program. This was due to the death of a fourteen year old girl after receiving a vaccination for Human Papilloma virus (HPV). Since September of 2008 about 1.4 million girls have received this vaccination from the National Health Service in England. The death of the fourteen year old occurred several hours after receiving a shot of the vaccine Cervarix at her school in Coventry. There were also three other girls who suffered mild symptoms of dizziness and nausea after they had received the vaccine. The manufacturer of Cervarix has issued a recall of the batch of vaccines use in Coventry as a precautionary measure. Although the girl's death is unclear if the vaccine was a cause. The article goes on to explain that HPV is caused by ninety-nine percent of cervical cancers and that Cervarix is over ninety-nine percent effective.

I think this is a very sad story that a fourteen year old girl died from receiving the HPV vaccine of Cervarix. I cannot imagine what the family must be going through with such a sudden death. On the other hand the manufacturers do not know if this was the primary cause of her death. There may be some underlying questions in which the autopsy will show. I have received the HPV vaccine of Gardisill which is also to Cervarix. I did not have any symptoms or reaction after receiving the vaccine but I believe that it depends on the type of person and hold their bodies will react to the vaccine. I hope that they will be able to see if in fact that Cervarix did or did not cause the death of the fourteen year old girl.
