Georgia started it and Russia continued it – to excess
The conflict between Georgia and Russia was started a little while back however the report from the UN was just recently released. When it happened it sounded like Georgia was the victim. This report uncovers the truth. Georgia was actually the first to strike and forced Russia to fight back. Although Georgia was provoked by Russia in a few ways, Georgia is still considered to be more at fault. So after being the bad guy initially Russia comes out not looking too bad. Actually over the past few month Russia has improved the way it is viewed by the world.
I personally hate that we are still fighting wars with each other. To think that we cannot resolve our differences in a better way is appalling to me. To me it doesn’t matter who did what first. In such a civilized and globalized world, war is still breaking out all over the place. There is no reason I can think of to fight a war. We as people should all be able to live in this world together. Dave Matthews sang “Hands and feet are all alike / But gold between divide us / Hands and feet are all alike / But fear between divide us” in his song Cry Freedom. This sums it up completely. War is always, one hundred percent of the time, over money or cultural difference. Who knows if we as a species will ever be able to get past this flaw that we have of not being able to get along. One day it may lead to our ultimate downfall.

I just thought I would offer that Dave Matthews also sings, "You get what you want, does it matter where you get it from? I for one don’t turn my cheek for anyone ("I Did It")."
I once heard it said that "Wealth makes war necessary." If you look at that sentence just in terms of capitalism, along with the fact that capitalism requires expansion to succeed, then - due to the increased "civilization" (neo-imperialism) and globalization that the world is undergoing - it seems to only really follow that an aggressively consuming economic force would inevitably create strife and conflict in every region it touches, and as those regions touch one another, the conflict would escalate.
