On Friday in Madrid a Spanish tuna fishing boat was hijacked by pirates in the Indian ocean. The boat had 36 crew members. The ship Alakrana sent out signals of distress saying there was a pirate attack and for help. Two planes from Luxembourg flew over the ship and saw armed pirates. So far there has been no indication of anyone being hurt. The Spanish government has begun to contact families of the crew members indicating the crisis. They formed a crisis committee. In April 2008 there was another pirate attack on a boat named Basque tuna boat. The ship was held for 6 days until a $1.2 million ransom was paid.
Reading this article I am hoping the crew members are okay. This is shocking to me though because I had no idea pirate attack still happened. It is actually pretty interesting for that reason. I’m wondering if the pirates ever made any sort of ransom. I am going to continue to check into this so if anyone wants to know more about it, let me know.

Wow I also find this story interesting. I did know that there were still pirates around, but still you don't hear about them that often. It's definitely not the problem it used to be. Now days with movies like pirates of the Caribbean, people tend to think of pirates in a good or misunderstood light. But this article proves that pirates are dangerous and people would do well to remember that.
Along with your article and Sarah's comment I too find this interesting. Honestly, I knew there were people in the past that were considered and called pirates, but I did not know that there was still such a living. I hope that the pirates are not as dangerous as I have been told and that they are not coming back into overdrive and take over. With the riches and such that the world consumes today I can only imagine what pirates would do to people to get what they want.
