Unsafe abortions kill 70,000 a year

Aisha Crawford
About 70,000 women die every year and many more suffer harm as a result of unsafe abortions in countries with restrictive laws on ending a pregnancy. Almost all the unsafe abortions were in less developed countries with restrictive abortion laws.
Close to all of the abortions in Africa,, Latin America, and Central America are unsafe abortions. The only reason Asia does not have a high number because of all the safe abortions in China. The majority of the abortions in North America and Europe are legal.

One of the main reasons for this high number in unsafe abortions in these countries is the loss of funding to planned pregnacy organizations. The US has always been the biggest funder of family planning in developing countries, but a significant amount of it stopped under the presidency of George Bush, who reinstated a policy known as the "global gag rule" on arrival in office in January 2001.

It removed funding from any family planning organisation overseas that had anything to do with abortion, including counselling. most countries came up short with no where to go.

The goal is to push contraceptive use in these countries to prevent things like this. However most of the women in these countries do not have a voice, and the use of condoms (most accessible contraceptive) has to be at the consent of the male. pharmaceutical companies are trying to create programs that helps supply contraceptives to these countries....

Wow once again another article about how women are being shitted on across the world. It truely saddens me that they have to have these illegal abortions because their country can not fund contraceptives for them...ANd the fact that George Bush cut the funding back then is what really makes me mad! what kind of president restricts the rights of his own daughters?? People think this abortion debate is a political issue but really its a public safety issue, because if you do not give women the option then stuff like this happens. Once again Thank God I have the right of choices.
