Women on Birth Control Less Attracted to Masculine Men

During the 1960s, contraception became available to women and gave them control of their fertility. But according to a study, it may have also changed women’s taste in men. Although the Pill has many obvious benefits, scientists say the hormones have psychological side-effects that are only now just being discovered. Around a woman’s ovulation period, she may tend to prefer masculine features and men who are more assertive. On days when women are not fertile, their attention swings towards men with boyish faces and more gentle personalities. However, if women are taking the Pill they no longer have fertile days and therefore no longer experience the hormonal changes that make them more attracted to manly men. Researchers have found this could alter and evolve women’s view of male attractiveness and even change the ideal appearance for men.

I think that this is an extraordinary study that shows how birth control can not only alter hormonal cycles, but completely change opinions of the opposite sex. Now I know why so many females are more attracted to the youthful, boyish faces like Leonardo DiCaprio, Johnny Depp, or Zac Efron. I believe that further studies with help scientists determine long-term consequences of females’ mating decisions and the impact on human mating choices and subsequent reproduction. This can influence the choices of females to continue using oral contraceptives or presume that they prefer macho men over boyish lads.

I'm not sure how much I believe this study. I understand that birth control seriously messes with your hormones though so I guess it could be true. I don't think it will change the kinds of men women find attractive because not all women use hormonal contraception. I would be interested in seeing other studies and whether they comfirm or dispell the findings of this one.

Wow, if this study is actually accurate its crazy to know the effects that simple drugs play on a person. There are always side effects with drugs and I find this one very interesting.

This is really funny, it makes me smile. I don't know if it has anything to do with the Pill or if it's just my maturing tastes but I feel like I am doing the opposite, my tastes have definitely changed since high school, but I mean I went from dating a boy with long hair to a guy who goes hunting and definitely fits into the macho man category more.
