This article is about the huge massacre in Mexico, where seventy-two migrants were found, shot to death, piled in large stacks. The article uses Paula Cruz's situation to describe what is going on. Cruz reported her son missing (kidnapped?) in Mexico after she received a call demanding her to send $2,500 to release him. Unfortuantly she didn't have the money, but after seeing the news of the massacre, she was among the hundreds who came to Mexico in search of their loved ones. As more families came to file a missing person report, some descriptions didn't match those of the seventy-two. The Mexico government says that they may fall in the category of the migrants killed by gangs and whose bodies were "hacked up, dissolved in acid, or buried in unmarked graves." The National Human Rights Commission say there was over 9,758 kidnapped migrants in the last six months of 2009. They also say that the gang's plan is to kill a couple of prisoners to scare the others' families into sending the money. Because most countries in Central America do no report missing people, they are now going to set up security to protect migrants by building shelters, keeping a closer watch on the railway lines, and to discourage undocumented migration. They also said that they will now set up offices and hot lines for the families to report their missing loved one.

I think the lack of shelter is the main reason why many migrants were easily fall into the prey of the kidnappers. I am shocked to learn that the government would accept people to migrate to Mexico and live there without a shelter. The migration policy of Mexico should be tightened or welfare of migrants should be increased.
