Over the last several months nearly 2,000 cases of salmonella have been reported in the United States. According to the Centers for Disease Control this is almost 1,300 more cases than there are usually reported. 380 million eggs coming from more than a dozen brand names have been recalled by Wright County Egg of Iowa. All of those eggs had been sold and distributed all throughout the United States. The bacteria that has been found in these eggs doesn’t necessarily mean the chickens were sickly because a perfectly healthy chicken can lay an egg that is tainted with salmonella bacteria inside and outside of the shell. Dr Christopher Braden from the Centers for Disease Control states that we could be seeing more salmonella illnesses as a result of this outbreak. When a person is sickened with salmonella poisoning it can be deadly for people with weak immune systems. Even though there have been many cases of salmonella poisoning, there are no death reports because of this as of now.
When I came across this story I was surprised because I did not know salmonella poisoning was affecting such an enormous number of states and people right now. It sounds to me like these chicken farms are not keeping a watch on how sanitary their operations are. Inspection of these eggs and the cleanliness of the farm should be kept under close watch because their lack of care has caused many people throughout the United States to become sickened. People should be careful of the eggs they consume and make sure they are properly cooked to ensure they will not be affected from this outbreak.

Wow!! this is scary 2,000 cases!! Salmanella can be a very dangerous and even fatal illness if left untreated. This post is going to make me think twice the next time I want to eat eggs or use an egg based product.
