Afganistan Schoolgirls poisoned by Taliban?

Krisitna Reid

On Aug 25th several students and teachers were hospitalized after being exposed to poison gas at a school in Northern Afghanistan. More than 80 students and teachers have fallen ill in three different cases involving poison gas. The first case was reported last Sunday when 13 girls said that the felt sick at school. The Saturday before 47 students complained of feeling nauseous and dizzy. The latest case was reported on Wednesday after 23 girls suddenly fell ill. All of the students said that they remember a strange smell right before they began to fell sick. Thus far none of the illnesses have proven to be serious by medical officials, and Afganistan doctors have sent blood sample of the victems to Kabul where they will be tested in order to find out what kind of gas was used. It is suspected that the Taliban who did not allow girls to attend school during their rule from 1996-2001 responsible for the poisonings.

I was shocked when I read this article, its amazing to the lengths that some people will go to just to get their points across. These poor girls have to live in fear just because they want to be able to go to school and recieve and education. I dont understand why it's such a problem for the Taliban that these girls are in school eyeryone both male and female should have the right to pursue an education. I feel that this was an act of pure evil and something needs to be done to better protect girls in Afganistan otherwise the Taliban will contine to terrorize and wreak havoc among young girls.
