"Doesn't it seem to be based on the Constitution of the United States that we're penalizing the wrong soldier? Doesn't it seem to you that we should send home the straight solider who hates the gay solider? The straight soldier whose performance in the military is affected because he is homophobic. The straight soldier who has prejudice in his heart, in the space, where the military ask him to hold our core American values" - Stefani Joanne Germanotta aka Lady Gaga. On September 16, Lady Gaga sent a message to the Senate slamming the Don't Ask Don't Tell policy. Lady Gaga also continued her onslaught against the military's DADT policy, Monday, with a self written political speech delivered in Main the day before the Senate's vote to overturn the anti-gay policy.
For anyone who is confused by the DADT policy, Don't Ask Don't Tell is the common term for the policy restricting the U.S military from allowing gay, lesbian, and bisexual service members or applicants, while dismissing those who are openly gay, lesbian, or bisexual from military service.
I am personally not a huge fan of Lady Gaga, yes her music is catchy, but sometimes I think she comes off as vapid or not having much substance to her name. I was wrong. After watching her two videos speaking about the DADT policy, I got chills. She spoke so powerfully and got straight to the point without being rude or trashy. I do believe this is a complex problem, and there is no quick fix. However I know that dismissing someone just because of there sexual orientation, is completely ridiculous. I identify as being an open minded individual, and to me, love is love. That shouldn't get in the way of your job, or protecting your country. I do understand that things can be distracting, especially during an incredibly stressful time, like war. Yet I highly doubt that the people who are gay, lesbian, or bisexual are running around yelling there business during a training exercise. If you sign up to be in the Military, go through training, and devote your life to serving your country; I believe you should be able to do that. No matter who you love.

It is unbelievable that our country has these rules. If someone is willing to put his or her lives on the line for our country, nothing else should matter. I think it is outrageous that there is still so much discrimination that is against homosexuals. Anyone who is homosexual should have the same rights as anyone else, and that includes the military. I am so glad that someone, Lady Gaga, is speaking out against this huge problem. If anyone can make a clear point, it is she. I love Lady Gaga, and I am happy that she is speaking out.
