Dental Health Problems Rising

Along with the problems with the economy, we have found many other problems arising. One of the more long term effects that we have been seeing is more problems with dental health. While the economy is making people more financially crunched, dental care is the first thing to go tells Ron Tankersley, the past president of the American Dental Association. While employees are not getting any increases of pay in the work force, they are also seeing their health benefits decreasing. this is causing people to not go to the dentist for routine check-ups. Dental health problems are not just problems that will fix or cure themselves on their own, they will only get worse overtime. Instead of waiting to get small problems such as cavities filled, you will not have to spend more money in the future when the issue gets worse. Tankersley said, "...before antibiotics, facial infections were the leading cause of death in young people". Issues with teeth only get worse overtime and cause more health problems in the long run. "Oral health literacy is one of the worst health problems, but it doesn't need to be," Tankersley says. There is clearly is a problem going on in the world right now in the terms of money and the economy, this is making health problems rise over time more and more, this causing a social problem, clearly. People should be able to be getting affordable health insurance, including dental insurance today. What do we need to do to fix the problem?

To solve dental health problems, health-care needs to be solved. I think that the government needs to fix the health-care problem so that those who don't have access to dental care can get it.

I understand why its a problem since people dont have the coverage for it. Dental work can be very expensive and in the economic times people would rather deal with the pain and get medications for something they feel is more important (high cholesterol or blood pressure maybe). Its sad that while medical technology is rising the dental health is falling.

I found this extremely interesting to read. Dental health is something you don't hear much about is the debate on health care. I work in a pharmacy and very rarely do we recieve prescriptions from dentists. This just shows how few people are going to the dentist on a regular basis.
