Lifestyle Diseases Growing Among Americans

High blood sugar is a disorder that is often easy to ignore unlike other diseases and body issues like a bladder infection, because bladder infections often show pain to your body in a very physical way, while we can just go along with life living with high blood sugar issues like nothing is wrong. The affects can cause plaque buildup in arteries and can effect the patient from everything from blindness to even death. There are nearly 24 million Americans diagnosed with diabetes and nearly 57 million people that are prediabetic, either they do not know they have it, or do nothing to help it. The CDC is estimating that 1 in 3 Americans will have diabetes by 2050. Being overweight is one of the biggest factors that can increase the risk of getting type 2 diabetes, which is most common. People every day are walking around living their daily lives with high blood sugar levels, but have no symptoms so they have no reason to lower them. We learned that lifestyle diseases are one thing that can make a change in the death rate, and that effects the stage of growth of a nation. The United States are currently around stage 4 or 5 of the demographic transition model, this is because we could be thought of as being in the declining because lifestyle diseases are becoming more common. We have to figure out ways to target this problem so that it does not get worse as the years go on.

This is a very disturbing thing to hear. People need to be very aware of what they are putting in their mouths so that they do not acquire diabetes. Knowing that 1 in 3 Americans will have it in the year 2050, is so disturbing. Exercise needs to be very important in the daily routine of citizens, so that they risk of getting it will decrease. I agree with you, we need to fix it before it gets worse.

Wow! It's hard to believe that by the time I'm in my 60s 1 in 3 Americans will have diabetes. People should see these statistics and realize that if they don't change their habits soon their health is going to be in danger.

I find this very disturbing as well. I've done a few of my blogs on similar stories, and it amazes me that people still continue to eat the way they do when they know better than to sit there and eat that candy bar and soda when they should be eating an apple and water. People have this attitude that it will never happen to them, but they need to realize the facts and see reality that it very well could be in their future.

I agree with Brooke, we should not think that things can not happen to us when the statistics show other things! A healthy diet is something I feel is lacking so much in our daily lives, and we are all subject to eating unhealthy im sure. But we need to be more aware of what we are eating and how much, this is a problem that can be cut down.

I had no idea that 1 in 3 will have diabetes by 2050. This is alarming and I kind of want to make a pledge to have my kids only eat organic food when I have them. It's so sad that these lifestyles diseases are because of stubbornness.
