Kyerre Hawkins, BMW deal gone bad.. 1/27/11

9:o9pm

There are different types of crimes as we all know. For example there are murder crimes, rape crime, car crimes, and any other thing that can be dangerous to people. Although there are different types of crimes, they all are wrong no matter how big or little they may be. One crime article I researched was about a car crime that occurred in New Jersey. The New York Daily News states that 30 year old, Barion Blake was driving a stolen blue 2008 Coupe BMW and had severely injured a New Jersey's, Akeem Ajimotokan, tied him up and threw him in the trunk of the stolen BMW. When police found Ajimotokan, he had a broken neck, a deep cut in his head and half of his ear was cut off. Report says that if the police did not come as soon as they did Ajimotokan might not have lived because of the risky condition he was in. Blake had already fled the scene but police later found him. Blake is an ex-con with a history of car theft. He crashed the Coupe which is how the police found the car. After he crashed the vehicle is when he fled the scene.
One good point that can be made about car crimes is that statistics prove that there is a decline in these crimes. According to Auto Theft Statistics, U.S. motor vehicle thefts declined 17.1 percent from 2008-2009-the largest annual decline in decades. I believe that people realized how important it is to lock their doors after car crimes began to grow. This contributed to the decrease in the car crimes because of the efforts of better safety methods. When I think of why people commit crimes I am still unsure about one discrete answer. Some many factors could play a role as in to why they committed it. I think that studies should continue to figure out why but I believe the bigger issue is what should society do to protect themselves? I believe this is a social problem because innocent people are getting harmed by criminals. As I learned in class, a problem is a social problem if it solvable, a norm violation and perceived as such to the public eye. With that being stated, now we as society must come up with a way to fix this issue.
