Tunisia has adopted dictatorship over 24 years ever by president Ben Ali, since he had been elected in 1987 by vote. Outraged civic group initiated huge demonstration in Tunis, to fight with dictatorship and to get back their freedom. They found that they can no longer gain freedom in the name of Ben Ali, finally broke silent.
This is called “Jasmine revolution”, which is named from common flower in Tunisia. This impact of revolution has been spread all over the world, especially by the power of social network. Bloggers in Tunisia showed a reality of human rights violation, by showing people in the world the picture of Tunisian people, beaten by Tunisian police. And now their protest is continuously ongoing.
On the other hand, once human rights group reported more than 70 innocent people died from this demonstration. And people in Tunisia began three days of mourning days to honor these deaths. This is the controversial global issue at various points, not to mention a serious human rights violation case.
From where I am standing, this demonstration is inevitable to break down solid dictatorship system over many years. My home country, South Korea, had been through exactly the same civil demonstration in 1980. (called Gwang-ju Democratic Uprising). Korean citizens stood up for democracy against the military government in May 1980 to overthrow dictatorship. Too many people lost their lives, but we finally got freedom back. This is the unforgettable case in history regarding human rights violation and also ashamed one.
I truly understand their deep grief, and I expect that many countries around Tunisia will be affected from this enlightening demonstration, and I hope they will soon start to fight against dictatorial way of dealing with people, like domino effect.
Democracy is now regarded as an initial factor to be guaranteed human right, many countries had been suffered to get this honorable freedom, and the fight is now ongoing in one small country. I hope this brave movement will bring huge impact on enlightened movement.
One more interesting thing is the demonstration by social network system. Nowadays the internet contributed to spreading awareness of not only the case of human rights violation cases, but the cases needs to be known.
