Tropical Cyclose Yasi was one of the worst cyclones to ever hit Austraila, the last one that was this bad happened in 1918. It hit in the really early morning of Febuary 3rd 2011. The cyclone caused mass destruction in Syndey, and the Queensland north eastern cost. It ripped up many houses straight from there foundation. The winds of cyclone Yasi went up to 185 miles per hour. It decimated many costal villages and ripped though millions of dollars worth of bananas and sugar crops. Some of the harder hit areas emergency crews were trying to get to but it was hard since many houses were isolated by flooding. In the month before the hurricane hit Australia's capital had some really bad flash floods that already caused billions of dollars worth of damge to homes and businesses and killed 35 people. Australia is know to be the country of "drought and flooding rains" because of its tendency to change from needing water to getting to much water. But scientist say they need to get used to the weather patterns because its only going to get worse with climate change
Tropical Cyclone Yasi is a big social problem for Austraila but also for other places that might rely on exported goods from Australia or importing goods to Austraila. With all the crop damage they got to bananas and sugar the price for it might rise significantly and some places may have to go look for it somewhere else because Austraila might not beable to export it. With the people many people will be homeless; and will have to rebuild because of what the cyclone did and some farmers might have lost everything because of the crop damage and they might have to start over
