There is crime afoot in Windermere, England. Lambs are being taken more and more with each rise in food prices. The English Lake District seems like the last place on Earth a crime would be committed but thanks to these steep prices in food, not just lamb, farmers all over are losing profits from lamb rustlers. We are not just talking about a lamb here and a lamb there, we are talking about 45 sheep being abducted form fields worth around $6, 400. That much money gone in one night lands a heavy blow to farmers, who once left their doors unlocked and vehicles' keys in the ignition, to having to put up video surveillance around their property. the year 2008 was record setting for prices being at a all time high. Now, 2011 has blew those records out of the water with almost double prices. The U.N. Food and Agriculture Organization said that its food index which includes wholesale costs for such commodities as wheat, corn, sugar, dairy products and meat - had climbed to a record high. Riots broke out last time this happened and some had already started . What is stopping this from being as big as 2008's is the fact that Africa had a great harvest this year. Unlike 2008, which Africa's harvest was horrific, they are the last stand from turning it into something bigger - a recession.
This article to me has me in a bad mood. For someone to work as hard as a farmer does, watch AND take care of HUNDREDS of animals, and someone/s comes and take their only means of income is evil in itself. Their pay is already unstable because of the simple fact anything can happen to a living creature. Now they have to find a way to make ends meet even though they did everything by the book, its just wrong. This just goes to show you that life is not fair. Everyone is out to get theirs so you have to have a back-up plan if things go awry.
