'US teenagers' killed in Mexican border city shooting
Blog # 4
Due to an ongoing war between drug cartels in the region Ciudad Juarez, Mexico has become one of the world's most dangerous cities. The city saw more than 3,000 murders last year and as of last week three more can be added to the list. Three teenage boys were in the Mexican border city on Saturday at a car dealership across from the Texas city of El Paso. The boys were looking for cars when they were shot and killed. One victim was found inside the vehicle, while the bodies of the other two teens were found in the courtyard of the dealership. An AK-47 and at least 60 bullet casings were found at the scene. Although, according to Mexican spokesman Arturo Sandoval, there are no leads in the case, police say that, that specific gun is used by drug traffickers. Two out of the three teens were believed to have been U.S. citizens. One of the victims, 16 year old, Carlos Mario Gonzalez Bermudez, was a second-year student at Cathedral High School in El Paso. The second victim, 15 year old Juan Carlos Echeverri, was a first-year at a Catholic high school last year but left to study in Ciudad Juarez. And 17 year old Cesar Yalin Miramontes Jimenez was identified as the third victim. A prayer service was held on Monday at Cathedral High School and officials are planning to have a second service later in the week for the teenagers.
The school’s principle, Nick Gonzalez, said "It's a lot of pain, a lot of sorrow, a lot of tears, a lot of coming together as a community to try to hold each other up and to try and make sense today." I feel that because this city has a high murder rate and has become one of the world’s dangerous cities that this murder will be very hard to solve. I hope that whoever committed this crime and subjected the families to this pain gets caught and spends a very long time in jail. My heart goes out for the family and friends of these three young men because crimes as pointless as this one are sickening.
