The article that I chose this week was one that I found on “The East African News” website. This article caught my attention with the title alone, “EA’s big men have failed; give women leaders a chance”. This title alone reminded me of the last chapters that we have been covering and talking about in class. This article was about inequality between females and their male counterparts, especially in businesses and politics. This issue is found all over the world and we discussed this in class. Even though the article is about Eastern Africa throughout the article it listed issues with inequality throughout different countries and how even though things are getting better it is still a gender gap. This article disturbed me though when speaking of the gender gap decreasing because it argued that is the world really changing or are women just looked upon when the issue has really gotten messy and needs to be fixed? This article had so much going on that connected with Sociology, including terms and I thought that was quite interesting. This article gave some really good points about how women would act or handle things if they were leaders, or had more power and equality than they have now. These aspects stood out to me because of a comment that Dr. Sills made one day in class about “if you give women money they will raise the standards of living, but if you give money they will blow it”, when I was reading this article it was as if I was listening to that lecture all over again.

I do feel that this would be a good idea men have been in charge for so long and have messed up plenty of times and they still have unlimited chances so why not give women a fair chance to manage what the men can’t. This story ties in with every country not only did they incorporate different figures from different countries based on the inequalities this in itself is a known global issue. Women are not considered equal, or needed until things really get bad. The title of this article also made me think of how normally big CEO’s have secretaries that handle a lot of the work making appointments or making sure important documents are sent where they need to go, women just naturally know how to handle multiple task at one time and so if we give women more chances to be equal and bring our ideas to the table things may be different and actually work.
