Suspect in fatal shooting of 2 U.S. airmen allegedly confesses to authorities
Summary: On Wednesday, March 2, 2011, two U.S. airmen were shot to death while another two were wounded. This attack took place outside of the Frankfurt, Germany airport terminal and the suspect in custody, named Arif Uka is believed to have acted in accordance with Islamism. It was said that Uka boarded a bus filled with U.S. Air Force personnel intended for their transport, and began to open fire. Witnesses say that before Uka began shooting, he shouted “Allahu akbar” which means “God is great” in Arabic. This incident has not been linked to terrorism at the moment; however a full investigation is under way. Both the U.S. and German governments are committed to ensuring that “all of the perpetrators are brought to justice.”
Analysis: Although this has not been qualified as a terrorist attach yet, it is quite plain to see that American troops around the world are the target of senseless killings. This affects society because it takes trust away from other countries, and other countries governments. American citizens will become even more skeptical of foreigners in America which may create many issues between races, ethnicities, and cultures. Although the attack was not as severe as it could have been, innocent, unsuspecting lives were lost and others were injured for no apparent reason.
