Technology and Vehicles

In recent news “car companies are “experiencing some challenges” getting newer electronic features to work properly over the long term.” Things like navigational systems and DVD players or entertainment devices are not working properly in cars and they are not lasting. I can understand having a built-in navigational system for helping people get to where they need to go but as far as entertainment systems in cars, it does not seem like that is such a bad thing that they are not working. Whatever happened to a simple radio in a car, a cassette tape player, or even a CD player? Technology has gotten so advanced that there are now touch screens and DVD players built into cars. People need to spend less time worrying about what movie their kids are fighting about watching in the back seat and more time focusing on the road anyways, so it would not be such a horrible thing if there were problems when it comes to that sort of technology. “As manufacturers add new features and technologies to satisfy customer demand and new legislation, they face the potential for introducing new problems.” Again, the companies are placing the blame on the consumers for demanding new innovative technological use. I do not feel that the blame can be placed solely on the customers though. There is plenty enough blame to go around to both the companies and the consumers. To eliminate these problems with these technology systems in cars maybe the companies should just eliminate them all together. If they are not necessary to operate the vehicle, then are they truly necessary at all?
