I found my article on the Google news website. My article comes from Libya, which has been getting news coverage with all the drama that is going on there. Unlike my other articles the woman’s name was not given, only the name of the middle aged woman who translated the woman words to English name was mentioned. So as the woman stated she was held captive and raped by fifteen people of Gadhafi’s militia. The woman also shows the rope burns and bruises on her body and reports that she was held against her will for a couple of days. This woman broke out her story at The Triploli hotel and even more shocking is what occurred after she confessed the tragedy that she had been through. The hotel members and government officials called her a traitor to the country and kicked her and then a white car proceeded to take her away. After this ordeal a CNN camera with footage of this horrific event on it was taken and destroyed past repair. This ordeal is really sad, wondering what happened to the woman who already had been through enough, I am sure based on them responding so negative to her outburst they probably killed her or harmed her really bad. Everything that is going on in Libya is really devastating but this touches home in relation to my topic. I chose this article because after reading this I was left wondering what happened to this poor woman and how could people just sit and allow such cruelty. This relates closely with the inequality that women have and also with the abuse that women go through. I could not begin to imagine escaping a traumatic event like this and crying for help just to be kicked and sent away. There are strong social differences if this would have happened in the United States a riot most likely would have broken out, my concern is if you can’t trust your government then how can you live with some kind of peace of mind.
