The U.S. embassy in Syria is seeking information on the whereabouts of an American college student whose parents believe was detained by authorities there during a demonstration. Tik Root, 21, of Ripton, Vermont, disappeared March 18 in Damascus, his father, Tom, told CNN's "In the Arena" Friday night. The Middlebury College student is studying this spring in an Arabic program through Damascus University. His father said that he probably would of watched a protest but it is unlikely he would of participated. The Syrian Embassy in Washington said in a statement Friday that it "was recently made aware of Mr. Pathik Root's situation and has been following it very closely ever since. We have been in touch with Mr. Root's parents, his state Senator, and the U.S. embassy in Syria. This is an unfortunate incident that we hope will be resolved as soon as possible." The U.S. Embassy in Damascus continues to seek information regarding the case with Syrian authorities.

The problem here is a missing person. More and more people each day are called in missing my love ones. There is not a certain range that this is specific for, everybody from every age group can become missing for many different reasons. One may be an angry spouse takes a child from the parent who has custody. Another could be an upset boyfriend kidnaps and kills a cheating girlfriend. Of course, there are organized crime rings who kidnap and sells women and children as sex slaves. Most of the time, the missing persons comes up, but this isn't always the case. Due to the fact of different causes from this same problem, there is no one solution to solving it.

I would like to see a world-wide global system for missing persons' information to be implemented. It should be visually accessible to all in hopes that since this information is globally available more missing loved ones can be found.
