Google now has the opportunity to become even more powerful than it already is. “Government officials are letting Google proceed with its $700 million purchase of airline fare tracker ITA Software.” With this new software Google will be able to have “control over the technology that powers the reservation systems of most major U.S. airlines and many popular online fare-comparison services, including Kayak, TripAdvisor and Hotwire.” This is a problem because Google is going to have even more control. Every company strives to have the most power. When power is the only thing on a company’s mind, then the costumers, consumers, and users are obviously not being given top priority. Google now has the opportunity to take business away from other travel software companies and that could be potentially dangerous. Though this new purchase gives Google more power, it does have its limits. “Google will be required to license ITA's software to other companies, and it will be prohibited from accessing any proprietary data or technology of ITA customers that resides on or runs through ITA servers.” The fact that Google has been given guidelines with this new control is a very good thing because without rules and guidelines the company could become a monopoly.
