America has troops in Iraq. Our troops are facing many problems. One of them is gun fire, along with bombs and air attack s and suicide bombers. But other than that they also have air pollution to worry about! Which this affects the soldiers lungs. Reporter Serena Gordon says scientists have taken samples of the air, also they have been doing this since 2008. And from there samples they have found there is small particles in the air, such as lead, arsenic and mercury. This is very dangerous the scientist say: small particles can go deeper in your lungs than large particles can. So that mean they can get to sensitive areas that can very harmful. Also there particle matter is 10 times what America’s is. The body is supposed to filter the air you take in, like you hair in your nose. But the particles are so small natural defense can’t stop it. And to add on to that it hot in Iraq so people breathe through their mouth, which forces it in the deepest part of the lungs. Which is the alveoli that allows oxygen to pass into the blood. So the small particles can get in the blood, but the body sends cells to destroy them but the particles get absorbed in by the cell stopping it from working. From this information our troops are battling more that people over in Iraq. I don’t think a lot of people in America know this is happens to their men or I feel they would be very upset, which they should be. This just add to another reason for us to pull out of Iraq.
