The article that I chose to do my blog on was about the women in Egypt and wanting equal rights. In the beginning of the article they mention how for eighteen days women were allowed to be equal to the men only during the time of protest when they were trying to overthrow the government. Then after the government was overthrown the status of the women did not change. They were put right back at the same level, there was even an incident where a mob of men attacked some women on International Women’s Day that were protesting for equality in the same location as they were a month ago when they were protesting alongside of the men in order to get rid of the government. Although women do have the right to professional jobs and higher education but there are family laws that work against them. In Egypt politics are not for women, this is further proven by the fact that Article 75 in the Constitution implies that the head of state will be a man. The women believe that it is time for them to have equality amongst them and the men. There might be women elected into different seats but when looking at the ratio of women compared to men its very much unequal. There are different opinions about how having women running the country and how this would make a difference. Many sociologists believe that this would be a great impact for a woman to run the country whether it is Egypt or another country. In my opinion I wonder what it will hurt. We have had men in control of things for years and we still haven’t made any progress. This article not only affects Egypt since it came from them it affects women all over. Even in the US where people believe that women are so equal they are still not, men have more of an advantage all over. It’s funny how women are equal enough to fight or protest but not anything else...
