National debt for the United States is way out of control. We all know that the war on terror in the Middle East makes a big contribution to government spending. However, do we need to be spending so much on this endeavor? The answer is no. The Commission on Wartime Contracting did research and found that the waste of funds connected with the war amounted to $31 to $60 billion. The problem is that the government is hiring private contractors to work for the military instead of using military service men who are qualified for the jobs. The government is sending the private contractors to Iraq and Afghanistan. These contractors are not adequately supervised; they often produce shoddy work and are even willing to pay the local leaders of terrorist groups for protection. So they are supporting the groups that we are trying to help the Iraqi and Afghani people to overcome. Research has been done by the Commission on Wartime Contracting showing that up to 20 percent of the contract cost to the contractors is used on these “protection” services.
This becomes a global social problem, because it affects the national debt of the U.S. which has become a very big problem. Also, it is deterring the progress that the Middle Eastern countries have been making in acquiring their freedom from these terrorist groups because they are getting supported by the private contractors. If these groups continue to financially grow, then they can pose a threat to the general population of the world.
