In brief, while reading
a recent article on Abortion, It stated that a recent study showed that about half
of all abortions around the globe have been deemed unsafe. As stated in the
article, unsafe abortion can be best described as terminating a pregnancy without
the proper education or medical training to meet medical standards. In addition,
reports showed a slight increase in the percentage of unsafe abortions between the
years 1995 to 2008. The study also showed that the abortion numbers has risen
for many reasons. Coupled with an increase in the population of women around
the world and the absence, or lack of contraceptive in many countries, more
women became pregnant. As a result more abortions were performed, both safe and
unsafe. For this reason, it leads researchers to believe that the practice of unsafe
abortion was one of the three leading causes of maternal mortality. Meanwhile,
while abortion still remains illegal in some countries, there are countries that
are trying to handle the matter.
However, the problem with abortion is that there are not enough prevention methods or family planning centers for the population. Hence, there are many people who cannot afford to purchase contraceptives or even gain access to them, due to the lack of resources. For instance, underclass families struggle to care for themselves and or their families so they turn to abortion at any cost, safe or unsafe. Also, we have people who have lack social control, such as young adolescents who get pregnant and then fail to honor their responsibility and choose to have an abortion. Clearly, abortion has been a global issue for quite some time now, and will always remain a debate on what is ethical or unethical. In any event, unsafe abortion is a detriment to many women and adolescents health and safety. However, people will continue to have safe and unsafe abortions although abortion can result in death.
