Blog #6 Sexual Castration in Germany

Germany has been faced with plenty of issues in its rich and rugged history.  Everyone knows about the Berlin wall and the Adolf Hitler.  Now Germany has brought an old law dating back to 1969 to light here today.  Germany's law on Voluntary Castration says that a person over the age of 25 may be subjected to surgical castration if the person has or displays an abnormal sex drive and that gives reason and suspect that this person might commit sexual crimes or excessive acts.   The procedure is not mandatory but the offender can have to procedure if being informed of all the implications and after medical approval has been accepted.  Germany has solid evidence backing up this controversial procedure.  Of the 103 people in 1970 who underwent the surgery only 3 of them committed a sexual crime again.  Of the 53 others nearly half who didn’t want and refused the surgery eventually reoffended.
By no means should sexual crimes go unpunished but physically castrating someone might be over the line or is it?  There are some sick people who live in our world but do they deserve to be punished like this.  Although this does not mean they can’t commit any more crimes they just cant sexual hurt someone but they can harass people and physically hurt someone.   Do you think Germany’s government is committing crimes against there own people?  I think they are castrating someone is very degrading and disturbing to me.  What about people who get falsely accused of a sexual act?  They do have to consent to it but having that throw into your face with being falsely accused of something just isn’t right.  Sexual crimes are very serious and disgusting but not to the point of castration.  This brings up human rights and Germany’s human rights group is already trying to stop Germany’s actions.
