Blog 4 : Heart Disease May Be Risk Factor for Prostate Cancer

According to the United States National Cancer Institute, Coronary artery disease is the leading cause of death among adults and prostate cancer is the second mostly deadly type of cancer for men in the United States. The new study from Duke Cancer Institute determines that heart disease is a risk factor for prostate cancer. If this information is confirmed then it means that lifestyle varies and lessens the heart disease risk such as weight loss, exercise and a healthy diet and it may also protect men against prostate cancer. Dr. Jean-Alfred Thomas II and his colleagues gave drugs to 6,390 men to analyze the effects in reducing prostate cancer risk. The Duke Researchers determined that men with coronary disease had a 35 percent greater risk for developing cancer over time. The men without heart disease had 24% of a risk for being diagnosed with prostate cancer within the first two years of the study. The four years in the clinical study represented that men with coronary artery disease had a 74 percent risk of prostate cancer than those who have no heart disease. Dr. Thomas said that they controlled the number of risk factors by giving their patient’s statins or aspirin.
I believe that If Duke Cancer Institute’s research stating “heart disease is a factor for prostate cancer” is true then it could benefit a lot of heart patients from lessening the heart diseases risk in the future. Further, it could be concluded that Healthy lifestyle such as weight loss; exercise and a healthy diet could lessen a lot of deaths due to coronary disease. I really hope this research would be useful and true so that Prostate Cancer  issue would be solved globally.
