Blog 13: Cardiovascular disease could be prevented through high fibre foods

Cardiovascular disease could be prevented through high fibre foods

University of Lind Researchers stated that food with high fibers can fight against cardiovascular disease. Women will be benefit more from this technique, whereas mens can be protected against strokes. Cardiovascular disease can incur either coronary heart disease or the aforementioned stroke. According to the NHS, Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death. One third of deaths in the UK are due to cardiovascular disease. The researcher Peter Wallstrom  discover that women gain more fiber  from better resources whereas men ate more bread to harvest the substance. He also believes that cardiovascular disease cannot be prevented from dieting, if you have to combat cardiovascular, you have to high fiber food.  Women who ate high fiber food had almost 25% lower risk of getting cardiovascular disease than who ate a lower-fiber diet. In men the effect was less pronounced. In the end , the researchers believed that they should pay more attention to gender when they conduct research on diet.
I believe the researcher did a really great job to conclude that the consuming of fibers are really essential for the health and best way to stop cardiovascular disease whereas dieting is not that successful to combat cardiovascular disease. I am glad the research brought up the point that they need to pay attention to gender when they do their research. We all need to take high fiber diet so that we would have fewer chances to suffer from cardiovascular disease and solve this issue globally.
High Fiber diet will increase our life expectancy and decrease the death rate which means cardiovascular disease won’t be the leading cause of the death.

Blog 12: Soft drinks cause heart disease in kids

The researchers stated that children who drink soft drinks regularly may have high risk that lead to  cardiovascular disease. The precursory of signs of cardiovascular disease could be seen in children as young as 12 who are consuming huge amount of sugary drinks. The symptoms are  narrowing blood vessels inside the eye. The researchers from the Westmead Institute for medical research observed at the link between carbohydrates which includes sugars and retinal health of children. The University of Sydney found retinal arteries in those who intake  274 grams of carbohydrate daily. The causes for those carbohydrate was soft drinks  that kids drink one or more glasses a day. The retinal blood vessel  represent a accurate signal of blood vessel health through the entire body. The statistics depicts that girls have higher association in high carbohydrate diet and narrowed blood vessel than guys. The researchers are trying to study the same children throughout adolescence to see if the damage occurred beyond childhood.
I believe the government needs to warn parents and children to cut down on carbohydrates and sugar since it causes diabetes, obesity and cardiovascular disease. Soft drinks didn’t give any advantage to health at all instead it is really bad for overall health. The disease rates and deaths would be lessened if we cut on the soft drinks and it would help to reduce cardiovascular disease globally.  We all need to apply health habits, exercise daily, and drink water  instead of soft drink since water is really good for your health.

Blog 11: Drug therapy can cut malaria infections

About 30 percent  of  malaria infections can be lessened by antimalarial drugs over a 12-month period. This trial was taken place in Papua New Guinea represented the drug regime  was effective against both Plasmodium falciparum and  plasmodium vivax malaria. The treatment regime is known as intermittent preventive treatment (IPT) protected the infants against malaria for atleast six weeks.  South-East Asia and South America will soon include the use of IPT since malaria is a huge social problem there.  In sub-Saharan Africa, where malaria causes 80 percents of death, ITP has been used for number of years to lessen the malaria. Professor Mueller stated that Plasmodium vivax is the main cause of clinical malaria in infants outside of Africa. IPT includes short courses of antimalarial drugs to provide protection against malaria infection. The trial SP-AQ treatment reduced  infection by 30 percent for Plasmodium falciparum and 23 percent for Plasmodium vivax. These figures are remarkably impressive  due to the use of drugs.
The use of IPT is a great idea to reduce the malaria problem globally. In Africa, where more than 80 percent people dies from malaria, the use of IPT lessened the death rate. IPT is a cheap and easy way to decrease the malaria in those most susceptible to clinical illness. People in other countries where malaria is so common, they need to take responsibility to get IPT so they can lessen the malaria and solve the social problem globally.  Malaria is also a  serious issue in South East Asia and South America so these countries definitely need to get IPT before Malaria increased rapidly.

Blog 10: Gynecologists urged to screen for heart disease

According to the researchers Womens who don’t see a primary care physician may have a detection of cardiovascular risk. Womens are usually untreated or unaware of risk factors for heart disease. It is the leading cause of the death in the United States. And the rate of heart-related death in women between the ages of 35 and 44 increase rapidly 1 percent per year. Women take more care of their breasts and get mammorans and bones than hearts stated by Dr. Mehran, director of interventional cardiovascular research. According to the research, two- thirds of the women  experience cardiovascular disease. The symptoms  were mild fatigue to severe chest pain. Dr. Mehran also recommend womens have a simple cardiovascular assessment in clinics which will prevent the heart disease. About 4 in 10 patients never had cholesterol check and 2 in 10 patients have no clue about their blood pressure, which means nearly half of the women in the program were postmenopausal.
After reading these shocking stats, it was really upset to acknowledge that heart disease is still the leading cause of death among women in the US.  Women take care of their breasts than their heart and Half of the womens are not even aware of the risk facts that is why heart disease is getting a huge social global problem. Women needs to go to OB/GYN clinics  that would increase prevention of heart disease and give critical knowledge. The survey is not costly at all and it only took two or three minutes to take a survey. Every gender needs to be apply healthy habits and go to clinic to have medical checks so that the death rates would decrease.

Blog 9 :Liver disease deaths reach record levels in US

According to the new NHS figures, the death rates by liver disease have been rising by 25% in less than a decade. The causes for these deaths are heavy drinking, obesity and hepatitis. National end of Life care stated that deaths were mostly found in men. The number of people died due to liver disease rose from 9,321 in 2001 to 11,575 in 2009. Prof Martin Lombard said
“70% end up dying in hospital which helps us understand the challenges in managing end-of-life care for this group of people and the increasing numbers of deaths from liver disease are all preventable such as alcohol, obesity, hepatitis C and hepatitis B. We must focus our efforts and tackle this problem sooner rather than late.” Further, the rising of young people deaths due to liver disease is more common since the latest reports showed that 60% rise in alcoholic liver disease in young people over seven years. Men were disproportionately affected, especially when deaths were due to heavy drinking. Minimum pricing of alcohol is one of the reason to do the impact on the levels of drinking that lead to alcoholic liver disease. The department of health spokesman said that urgent action is needed to halt this strategy.
Liver disease is the big killer on the rise even though it remained the poor relation in comparison to other  big killers such as cancer and heart disease. It clearly gives a sign that our liver patients have benn and continue to be failed by our healthcare system and this needs to change in order to solve this social global problem. The alcohol prices should be high so young people could not afford the alcohol and
health service commissioners must assign the disease at the local level too, focusing on ways to catch problem drinking early and so help to reduce the huge social and economic cost of the current death rate. The really urgent action is needed before it gets too late.

Blog 8:Chlosetrol Drugs may help ward off Parkinson's

According to the Harvard School of Public Health research, Statins lower the risk of developing Parkinson’s disease. Parkinson's disease occurs in approximately 1% of individuals aged 60 years and in about 4% of those aged 80 years. Since overall life expectancy is rising, the number of individuals with Parkinson's disease will increase in the future. The researchers states that In the United States, about 1 million people are affected by Parkinson's disease and worldwide about 5 million. Statins had a 26 percent decreased risk of developing Parkinson’s disease over a 12 year period. People under 60 were lessened by 69 percent. Researchers stated that statins helped in reducing blood levels of coenzyme Q and it protect against Parkinson’s disease and are actually known a treatment for the condition because statin reduce inflammation in the brain. During 1994 to 2006, 38000 men and 91,000 women were questioned if they were taking statins because it doesn’t worse the disease. The using of statins also reduced the heart diseases, obesity and lessens smoking habits.
I believe the using of cholesterol drugs is a best idea to lessen Parkinson disease and heart disease which means the death rates will be reduced and life expectancy is higher, which will solve the problem globally. Furthermore, Statin will also reduce the inflammation in the brain since it lower blood levels of coenzyme Q.  I believe everyone needs to start using statins since the research also approved that cholesterol drugs lessen the death rate. We need to focus on this common non communicable disease before it gets worse.

Blog 7:Statins use tied to lower risk of depression

Statins are some of the most widely used drugs worldwide.  National Center for Health Statistics states that during 2005 and 2008, a quarter of U.S. adults over 45 took the drugs. According to the new study from California, Heart disease patients who take cholesterol-lowering strains may have a lower risk of depression than those who don’t take the drugs. Dr. Christian Otte mentions if it is popular medications that have anything to do with the brighter mood among users but clogged-up blood vessels in the brain could play a role in depression. The University Medical center in Berlin stated that it is possible that statins exert beneficial effects on depressive symptoms through protective effects on cerebrovascular processes. The 17 percent of statin users screened positive for depression at the beginning of the study compared to 24 percent of people not on the drugs. The lowering of cholesterol by statin means lowering the depression since this nation is a cholesterol-phobic nation. Dr. Susan Jick from Boston University mentioned statin users had a lower risk of depression and less likely to have a history for depression or smoke.
In this world, every heart patient faced depression no matter what and the depression lead to the heart attack or serious diseases, which increased death rates globally. The using of statin is a great influence to lessen depression and avoid expensive holistic medicine. The patients who use statin have a lower risk of depression compared to those  who don’t take the drugs. Overall, the Statin user’s life expectancy is high since they won’t have cholesterol and smoking issues. I believe that every patient should use statin since the results are so positive.

Blog 6 : Women can cut risk of heart disease.

According to the American Heart Association, Heart disease is the leading cause of  women, more than any cancer.  American heart’s month is February  so it is an opportunity  to take control of your heart and confront potential risk factors. Eileen Kelly from Northshore University wanted to raise awareness and encourage women to take steps toward a heart- healthy lifestyle.Dr. Kelly’s research states More than 80% of the risk of the heart attack and stroke  can be reduced in women, who don’t smoke, exercise regularly and eat a healthy diet. Dr Kelly wanted women to carry a food diary so that they could know their patterns and pitfalls and identify areas where they can improve. Changing your eating behavior is a better strategy than considering a temporary diet to lose weight. Exercise is really important too. Women are most likely  than men to experience atypical signs including back pain, jaw pain, GI- like issues including reflux and even earlobe pain. Dr Kelly  urged  women to see a physician if they faced new or different pains above the waists.
It is an excellent opportunity to make women self-aware about heart disease since the idea of eating a healthy diet, weight loss, not smoking and exercise regularly would increase their life expectancy. As  I see Dr. Kelly is really encouraging and understand that how hard it is to break a bad habit but if Women tries to  break  it by taking baby steps then it is possible to cut the risk for heart diseases. Therefore in the fact,Higher Life expectancy means lower death rate, which will solve this problem globally.

Blog 5 :Peripheral Artery Disease Undertreated,Understudied in Women

Peripheral artery disease can lead to heart attack or stroke and it is still unknown and untreated in women. American Heart Association Scientific gave an idea about starting a American Heart Association’s Go Red for Women awareness knowledge about PAD. According to Globe Newswire stated that women with PAD are two or three times more likely to have a stroke than those without it. PAD is a serious circulatory disease caused by a buildup of fat and other content in blood vessels outside of the heart, usually in the legs, feet and arms. It can increase heart attack and stroke risk and also cause tissue death. About 8 million people in the US have peripheral artery disease. Dr. Alan.T Hirsch, lead author and professor of University of Minnesota Med School, stated that the rate of deaths and the healthcare costs associated with PAD are almost near to those of heart disease and stroke.  The Go Red for Women, helps women to be aware of the risks, encourage them to talk openly and honestly with their healthcare provider about those risks and teaching them about the prevention and treatment options that can help them save their lives. Treatments like diet and lifestyle changes, medication and supervised exercise can help it lessen PAD.
It is a wonderful idea to start a campaign Go Red for Women which will lessen PAD in women globally. People must take seriously their responsibility to include women as a key target audience to prevent, diagnose and treat PAD. If this won’t stop then PAD would be a huge social problem. The idea to fund an research is required to determine how gender may affect the rate of development of PAD, the response of medication is all included in Go Red for Women’s campaign. We all really need to look forward to support this campaign since a lot of Women are totally oblivious about PAD.

Blog 4 : Heart Disease May Be Risk Factor for Prostate Cancer

According to the United States National Cancer Institute, Coronary artery disease is the leading cause of death among adults and prostate cancer is the second mostly deadly type of cancer for men in the United States. The new study from Duke Cancer Institute determines that heart disease is a risk factor for prostate cancer. If this information is confirmed then it means that lifestyle varies and lessens the heart disease risk such as weight loss, exercise and a healthy diet and it may also protect men against prostate cancer. Dr. Jean-Alfred Thomas II and his colleagues gave drugs to 6,390 men to analyze the effects in reducing prostate cancer risk. The Duke Researchers determined that men with coronary disease had a 35 percent greater risk for developing cancer over time. The men without heart disease had 24% of a risk for being diagnosed with prostate cancer within the first two years of the study. The four years in the clinical study represented that men with coronary artery disease had a 74 percent risk of prostate cancer than those who have no heart disease. Dr. Thomas said that they controlled the number of risk factors by giving their patient’s statins or aspirin.
I believe that If Duke Cancer Institute’s research stating “heart disease is a factor for prostate cancer” is true then it could benefit a lot of heart patients from lessening the heart diseases risk in the future. Further, it could be concluded that Healthy lifestyle such as weight loss; exercise and a healthy diet could lessen a lot of deaths due to coronary disease. I really hope this research would be useful and true so that Prostate Cancer  issue would be solved globally.

Blog # 3:The most common non-communicable disease: Diabetes

According to Dr. Liu of Drexel’s University’s School of Public Health stated that Diabetes is the fourth or fifth leading cause of death in most countries and one of the most common non-communicable diseases globally. Dr. Liu’s study focused on founding the access to healthcare support and the prevention for diabetes after when they investigated a data from World Health Organization’s World Health Survey which is known for the first and largest global surveys using a standard method to determine the rates of conditions in countries worldwide. Liu’s study concluded that diabetes occurred widely from a low of 0.27 percent in Mali, to 15.54 percent in Mauritius. Researcher determined that age is a common factor in diabetes and life’s expectancy would reflect due to infectious diseases. In the end, Liu’s main step was to examine the risk factors for diabetes and finding effective ways to prevent the risk factors, including health behaviors, social and environmental factors.
I think everyone is aware that Diabetes is the one of the most common cause of death in countries and it is scary how it reduced life expectancy and enormous health costs for virtually every society. I believe that Dr. Liu’s research could benefit in lessening diabetes world-wide and healthcare needs to focus on this issue since it is increasing so rapidly in coming decades. Since the study results showed that risk of diabetes is associated with being overweight or obese so it mean if everyone exercise three times a day and work on their diet, Diabetes could be preventable. We need to focus on this common non communicable disease before it gets worse.

Blog 2:Global Health Leader Launches Uniquely Advanced Heart Disease & Stroke Prevention Program

San Francisco Chronicle Press stated Cenegenics Medical Institute started a unique Heart Disease and Stroke Prevention Program with the most advanced program which includes the nation’s top laboratories that screen for cardiovascular disease. Cenegenics Medical Institute stated that Cardiovascular is the worse disease that takes more lives every year than all cancers, diabetes, Alzheimer’s or accidents, per the AHA’s 2011. Ceregenic’s plan is to target the disease with the latest medicine and an innovative program. Previously, Cenegenics has focused on age management medicine and proactive health. Dr Robert Willix from Cenegentics said that advanced screening techonology is  our first endeavor to not to target illness only but also to reduce the development of disease. This program is provided to everyone. Cenegenics claims that they can prevent premature death, a heart attack or stroke but they have got to know warning signs before which their Heart Disease and Prevention Program helps them to do that. Dr Robert Willix said this Program includes genetic screening, advanced lipid panels, laboratory markers for plaque formation and assesments and assements for inflammatory markers.
I am looking forward to see the positive results for this Program since it can prevent a lot of deaths by cardiovascular disease and it would really benefit other countries to reduce this serious disease
. Cenegenics are world wide and lets see how this Advanced Heart Disease and Stroke Prevention Program changes the life for the people who have family history of a heart disease and stroke. If this program combining the best aspects of the nations top laboratories helps to lessen cardiovascular disease then it would be really helpful for United State and other countries. According to the World Health Organization, 17 million people dies of Cardiovascular disease every year and I believe after if the program by Cenegenics will be successful then this death rate would go down.

Blog1: Public Health in the 2012 Olympics Health/Disease- Hasan Bhatti

Public health experts have warned the public that the London 2012 Olympics have the possibility to start a disease epidemic. The large crowds and gatherings have been described by health experts as a hotbed of disease. The Guardian NEWS is reporting that the Health officials are in the process of starting a public health campaign that will coincide with the London 2012 Olympics and Paralympics in the summer.CBC NEWS reports that new technologies are being employed to help experts understand how large crowd of people interact. CBC NEWS also reports that health officials are providing proven medical countermeasures such as clinical services. The purpose of the campaign is to prevent the spread of a disease from one to another for the sporting event from all over the world. The NHS organizations are working hard to give high quality health services to the local people and visitors. There is a lot of testing and exercising plan in place to make sure that all systems are ready for the Games.
I am impressed with the idea that they are providing health care in the UK to prevent the spread of disease since travelers can introduce the infectious diseases to a host nation or to their home country when they return. The question is why the best health care is not provided in other countries during the Olympics. It should be provided equally to developed and developing nations on public health grounds. Providing health care equally would prevent public health concerns such as this.
