Blog 7:Statins use tied to lower risk of depression

Statins are some of the most widely used drugs worldwide.  National Center for Health Statistics states that during 2005 and 2008, a quarter of U.S. adults over 45 took the drugs. According to the new study from California, Heart disease patients who take cholesterol-lowering strains may have a lower risk of depression than those who don’t take the drugs. Dr. Christian Otte mentions if it is popular medications that have anything to do with the brighter mood among users but clogged-up blood vessels in the brain could play a role in depression. The University Medical center in Berlin stated that it is possible that statins exert beneficial effects on depressive symptoms through protective effects on cerebrovascular processes. The 17 percent of statin users screened positive for depression at the beginning of the study compared to 24 percent of people not on the drugs. The lowering of cholesterol by statin means lowering the depression since this nation is a cholesterol-phobic nation. Dr. Susan Jick from Boston University mentioned statin users had a lower risk of depression and less likely to have a history for depression or smoke.
In this world, every heart patient faced depression no matter what and the depression lead to the heart attack or serious diseases, which increased death rates globally. The using of statin is a great influence to lessen depression and avoid expensive holistic medicine. The patients who use statin have a lower risk of depression compared to those  who don’t take the drugs. Overall, the Statin user’s life expectancy is high since they won’t have cholesterol and smoking issues. I believe that every patient should use statin since the results are so positive.
