Blog 10 Going with the 'FLOW' towards better sanitation

This article focuses on sanitation around the world especially in regards to water. Although the United Nations has announced that 89% of the world's population now has sustainable access to safe drinking water, global sanitation is still lagging. 2.5 Billion people worldwide are still subject to poor sanitation. "One child dies every 20 seconds because of poor water sanitation according to the U.N." The Millennium Development Goal regarding sanitation is not likely to be met until 2025. New technologies have been developed to more efficiently monitor water supplies, wells, and pumps. "The mobile technology android-based system uses camera and GPS to collect information on wells and pumps. These then link to a web-based dashboard where survey data can be tracked on Google Maps and Google Earth, according to Water for People." This is a good way of keeping an eye on water supplies from a distance, which is better than we have been able to do in the past. Water is finally becoming a priority for decision makers and even major technological companies. We can now help developing countries from a far, rather than having to gather funds and equipment to bring to the location. This new technology helps us to more efficiently aid these countries without so much of a sacrifice. I am glad to hear that we are making progress and plans for the future, even though it is taking some time.
