Blog 10:Top corporations highlight ending human trafficking as “smart business”

Large Companies are now getting involved and trying to help stop human trafficking. Businesses are now applying self-regulatory standards in an effort to stop the trafficking of people. On Friday, there was a luncheon co-organized by End Human Trafficking Now and The United Nations on Drugs and Crime. The luncheon was called “Ending Human Trafficking is  Smart Business”. Google and Exxon were some of the companies to share best practices and ways to stop human trafficking. The goals were to stop human trafficking, share good practices, and lessons that were learnt. One person said that with the economic depression, the problem is fueled even more. Businesses who operate under strict ethical rules are more stable and safer than those who do not. End Human Trafficking Now is pushing for the adoption of the Athens Ethical Principles.
I thought this article was very informative. It is shedding light on the large corporations that are fighting to end human trafficking. Some business can be very unethical and force human labor. It leads to human trafficking. Especially with the finical crisis,  it can be easy for businesses to be tempted to traffic humans.  Human trafficking is a crime and should not be tolerated. It is good that End Human Trafficking and The United Nations on Drugs and Crime hosted this luncheon and that large corporations are getting involved in the issue. It helps bring awareness to this ethical issue. No human should be forced to work for a company.
